My Inspiration for Writing The Vitality Secret

As you may have read in “Meet Neil”, my inspiration for this book came from witnessing the health of my father deteriorate unnecessarily.  He suffered a stroke which has impacted him ever since. I say unnecessarily for a reason: A number of years prior to the stroke, he was diagnosed with ‘chronic inflammation’ and sadly he wasn’t offered the correct advice by his doctor, so the condition worsened and he endured a stroke.

I went on a quest to figure out exactly what this whole ‘inflammation’ thing was all about. I later discovered that inflammation is quite literally the root cause of so many illnesses we grow to accept as part of life. It’s the root cause of the eczema from which I have suffered my entire life. For the most part, my eczema has gone. I cannot say it is “cured” as it is something that can return at any time. What I will say is with a shift in nutrition, and by learning how to manage my emotions (namely stress and overwhelm), I no longer suffer.

Inflammation is also the foundation for every chronic disease and it accelerates the biological ageing process, hence it is dubbed “Inflamma-ging.” In case you missed that, it makes you age faster!

Common Illnesses Which Are Inflammatory

It would be easier to ask: Which illnesses are not inflammation. They include every skin condition. Asthma is inflammation of the bronchial tubes. Digestive problems including IBS, Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis all stem from inflammation. Joint pains, as a result of gout or arthritis, are simply symptoms of…you guessed it….inflammation.

What Is inflammation?

Great question. It’s your immune system’s reaction to what it perceives as an attack on it. It is a healthy immune response protecting you from foreign or ‘alien’ invaders. When something enters your body that your body does not recognise, your immune system goes into a state of defence. Short term is great. Long term is life-threatening.

Can you measure for inflammation?

Yes you can. Why aren’t we all testing ourselves for it every 6 months? You tell me…

Could it really be as straight forward as reversing this one thing, to heal our whole body of just about every chronic challenge we face?
